Description
In the mid 20th century, artists in Haiti began repurposing the steel drums that transport cargo into the island nation as raw material for rustic, often whimsical sculptures. This bright floral cat is hand-painted in the village of Noailles in
Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti.

Artisans use chalk to draw designs on flattened
55-gallon metal drums, then hammer and chisel away to cut, bend, and shape each piece. It’s a simple and joyful expression of creative energy and an important source of income in a country that has been devastated by recent major earthquakes.

Please note that these are quite rustic and each will vary. They do come ready to hang indoors or out, but we suggest leaning them on a shelf, mantle, or table in a sheltered area to preserve the colors and prolong the life of the recycled materials.
