Have you heard the buzz about the charming new inn in town? This fun and functional birdhouse is handcrafted in Nepal of felted sheep’s-wool and embellished with flowers and a hummingbird appliqué. Dew dries quickly from the naturally water-resistant sheep’s-wool, and a clean-out door at the bottom lets you remove old nesting materials. No nesting birds in your neighborhood? It also makes for charming indoor decor, or even a fairy house or piggy bank.
The 1¼ inch opening suits tiny birds like wrens and nuthatches, but it can be expanded to 1½ inches for bluebirds or tree swallows.

The birdhouse will last forever if used as indoor decoration, or when hung in a protected outdoor area such a porch (which is where wrens prefer to nest). If placed in direct sun, colors will begin to fade within a month as with any dyed fabric, but the opening and body will keep its shape for years even in the harshest weather.
The sheep’s-wool body is naturally water repellent. Moisture from dew, rain or snow quickly dries in the open air. Wool is also naturally dirt and mold resistant. Generally, a good brushing is all that's needed to spruce it up. To remove stains, work the spot with mild soapy water, then rinse and air dry. Do not place in washing machine or dryer. If stored over winter, enclose in a sealed bag similar to other woolens to protect against moths. A clean-out door at the bottom lets you remove old nesting materials.
If I were a bird this would be the house I would choose! It's absolutely beautiful and made very well. I plan to stretch the entry hole to accommodate blue birds. Even if they never move in it will still be pretty in the garden.
What a charming, colorful and purposeful little birdhouse. It was a gift for my sister, and she loves it!
